MANILA, Philippines - The Climate Change Commission (CCC) entered into an agreement with the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) Friday to implement renewable energy demonstration systems in areas designated by the labor group.

The CCC and TUCP would exchange information and experience on matters pertaining to the promotion, development and utilization of solar and wind energy.

This will be implemented in the form of seminars, symposia and conferences.

The memorandum signed by CCC commissioner Heherson Alvarez  and TUCP president Ernesto Herrera shall be in effect for two years subject to renewal by both parties three months before the end of the agreement.

The agreement includes climate change mitigation provisions in collective bargaining agreements and the implementation of capacity-building activities on green jobs, decent work and sustainable development for unions and workers. Apart from TUCP members and affiliate organizations, awareness-building activities with international labor federations will also be conducted.

The partnership will also entail advocacy on the amendment of the implementing rules of the Labor Code requiring a provision for the inclusion of annual activities for climate change and carbon reduction.

The program will also encourage the Philippine Economic Zone Authority and its locators to participate in awareness and capacity-building efforts for carbon reduction and climate change
